For way too many years the Ship inn , Gillingham has been off my radar and man am I sad to think how many great bands I've missed out on seeing there. They certainly have an amazing promoter in Crowsnest productions and the calibre of bands they book are always a cut above the rest. Yet another band, Honey Buzzard has come along and proved to me that there is such an amazing wealth of talent in Kent at the moment.
Honey Buzzard are a 5 piece that have broken away from the mould in a time where most new bands are trying to be the next big metal core , nu-metal , death metal or thrash band and further saturate the genre. These 5 are taking their music to a whole new level.
Planting themselves firmly on the scene as a rock /indie band with a twist of genius. They effortlessly blend a smooth cocktail of soul , blues , alt rock and create songs that aren't only only a pleasure to hear but have a tendency to lift you up and take you on an audio spiritual journey.
Their energy on and off stage is infectious, they simply love what they do and it shows. On vocals and guitar , Henry Blake fronts the band with a smooth attitude, cool calm and collect, backed by Drew Francis on guitar, Toby Heather on bass , Tom Kirk on keys and Olly Julier on drums. They are fast becoming a talking point among avid music fans in Kent and its easy to see why .
Two of their songs , well worth a listen are available to stream . In my opinion , Honey Buzzard are a must see on the live music scene. You might just find they become someone worth following. I will be seeing them when i get the chance again.
