August burns red

Electric ballroom , London

Anybody who has been to an August burns red gig knows just what is going to go down. "nearly loosing your life in the pit " comes to mind . Never the less everyone is there for one thing really , to live in the moment of a band doing what they do well.

Tonight was no different, From the moment the lights went down the energy in the room was electric, the anticipation of the brutal onslaught that was about to let loose on the crowd could be cut with a  knife.  Then note one dropped and all hell broke loose .

Fast paced and with so much attitude the band delvers one brutal track after another with a decent delve into their older music but not forgetting the newer tracks need attention too. They defiantly own the stage and frontman Jake Luhas has a way of commanding a crowd and its rather easy for him to get them whipped up into a frenzy. Not always a good thing though. Sadly this is a smaller venue than they could easily fill and the lack of space at a sold out gig is evident when at least half the floor space is enulfed by a pit, forcing those not wanting to be involved get crammed up against the barrier and walls. Yes , we are al there for the same reason but sometimes just sometimes it becomes dangerous for those who are caught up in the crush.  My opinion is that its defiantly down to the band to keep tabs on what is going down and sometimes step in , on this occasion not. It was unfortunate that i witnessed a few fans , mostly younger women get hurt , one knocked unconscious, by the constant flow of crowd surfers coming over the barricade , encouraged by the frontman . Not everyone up front are capable of dealing with handing a surfer over the barrier but this was missed by the band and sadly people got hurt.

With all that said , this was a gig that will stay in the minds of everyone there , and lessons learned by some on what to expect  next time the dare to head for the barrier.
