Rhino Tranq

Live at the Ship inn, Gillingham

I remember the first time i saw Muse play live , 1st support band at Brixton academy back in 1999 and wondering if the headline act "LIVE" were standing backstage wondering "how the hell do we follow that". Every single person in that venue took note and knew they had just witnessed something very special.  Watching Rhino Tranq on Monday at the battle of the bands , Heat 4 had that same effect.. Not only for me but the landslide win they pulled off indicated that the crowd stood up and paid attention.

This young Kent based band impressed with their unique sound , some call "next wave " , I'd call a stylish bend of punk, indie and a whole lot of grunge that defines this band for the fresh style they deliver oh so well. They set the pace from the word go . Oskar Payne - guitar and vocals stands tall upfront,  oozes stage presence and holds the audience captive with a great vocal range. He is backed by Sam Jones - Bass and vocals , providing more than just the energy of the duracell bunny.  Jack Springett- lead guitar leads them on a breakneck journey with killer riffs and some interesting experimental finger work that works perfectly to create the sound that defines this band . Now last but defiantly not least we have Lola Costello on the drums. Of all the artists over the evening from all bands playing she impressed me the most. All too often people dismiss a female drummer believing that they don't have what it takes to hold pace and deliver the technical skills needed to be classed a good drummer. She proved tonight that this is not he case and slayed , and she will only get better ad thats going to get her noticed.  What's even better is these guys and girl have fun , they love what they are doing and it shows in how they manage to keep the crowd bouncing.

This was one of those sets that all hit you like a ton of bricks, handed you something new and exciting then , all over in a flash.  I honestly cant wait to see them again. Congratulations on winning the heat, well deserved guys.

For those that don't know this band yet , find them somewhere , anywhere, you might just be privileged to see something big in the making.

Until next time.
